Introduction

The Design In Me

As a child, I loved to draw, even at a young age being told I had a talent right there. I never really believed it, and didn't act on it too much, lack of faith I suppose. I went to college after school, and having been turned down for the art foundation due to lack of O-levels (yes, I am that old), settled for second best, attending a British Display Design course (basically, designing and making props for shop windows). This, however, did not work out. My heart wasn't in it, so I left in the second year of the course.

Over the years I had no direction, working menial jobs and being unemployed for a while. During this time I had two children, eleven years apart I might add. Finally I decided it was time to get myself together. I was encouraged to take up painting, and inbetween working and caring for my son, created some amazing art work. I also learned to drive, got engaged and felt life was going my way. Then I lost my job, became single and there were a few deaths in the family. This was a very devastating time, but I somehow managed to muster the strength to carry on. I attended a taster course on alterations, which led me to college life once again.

I completed with distinction a fashion level 2 course in Liverpool Community College, then enrolled onto the Costume production level 3 course. During the summer, tragedy struck. Another devastating blow. My son's father, also my friend, suddenly died, and this completely threw me off balance. I had some good friends around me, others turned away, I wasn't myself. Despite all of this, I struggled through my course, (thanks to all my class mates) and very surprisingly achieved double distinction stars. I figured I was meant to design, even for a while thinking my son's father may have played a spiritual part. I am now currently enrolled on the Foundation degree level for Fashion and Design Technology, a fantastic achievement, and not before time. This is my design blog. And this is me. Enjoy!
